SOCIAL WORKER
Haida Child and Family Services Society is recruiting a full time generalist Social Work practitioner. In partnership with the MCFD and the HCFSS team you will provide culturally appropriate and holistic services to the children, families and communities of Haida Gwaii. Your philosophy of practice will be strengths-based, and you will have experience working with an Aboriginal Child and Family serving agency. You will practice inclusivity and your decisions will be informed by Haida traditions and values and the CF&CS Act. RCMP crim. check.
QUALIFICATIONS: BSW with a minimum of two years experience. Child protection experience will be a definite asset.
SALARY: This will be a unionized position and will fall within a pay scale determined by the collective agreement between the BCGEU and CSSEA.

FAMILY GROUP CONFERENCE COORDINATOR (FGC)
Haida Child and Family Services Society is recruiting a full time Family Group Conference Coordinator. Our mission is to prevent the need for bringing children into foster care. The primary objective of this project is to divert child protection cases that are being brought before the courts. The Coordinator will implement the Family Group Conferencing approach, a model which focuses on meetings that are culturally based and encourage child-centered and family-based agendas that harness the strengths of families. Considerable judgment, initiative and discretion in dealing with complex and/or precedent setting cases is required. Persuasive and influential skills and tact are needed in dealing with families; with external groups; government ministries, and contracted resources.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in social work, or comparable degrees in the social sciences, or a certified mediator. Other qualifications and equivalent experience will be considered. First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is a respected problem solver and able to negotiate and mediate solutions to disputes within families and between families and government Ministries. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry.
