Intake & Family Services Social Worker -  West Region Teams
FULL TIME- $48,240 - $63,832 per year

Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society (FVACFSS) is responsible for the provision of a number of child protection and preventative programs and services to children, youth, parents, and families in First Nations communities in the eastern Fraser Valley.  The area has been divided into three regions: 1) West:  Langley/Abbotsford and surrounding areas; 2) North/East:  Mission/Agassiz and surrounding areas; 3) Central:  Chilliwack and surrounding areas.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Child Protection Social Workers (CPSWs) provide culturally appropriate and holistic services to children and families within the parameters provided by the B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act, the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI) and the FVACFSS Policies and Procedures Manuals.  Services are provided based on the premise that families have the intent and desire to nurture and protect their children.  The views of children, families and communities are sought, valued, respected and considered in all aspects of service planning, service delivery and service evaluation.  The CPSWs receives administrative and professional support and supervision from their Delegated Team Supervisor.

Under the direct guidance and supervision of their Delegated Team Supervisor, the FS Child Protection Social Worker is responsible for developing a trusting and respectful relationship with children, families and communities residing within The Agency’s service area and for discharging child protection responsibilities.  The FS Child Protection Social Worker is responsible for:

(a)          Receiving and acting upon public information – Intake;

(b)          Processing the request for services or address the public concern – Assessment;

(c)          Accessing and documenting all appropriate collateral information using standard professional tools and procedures – Investigation;

(d)          In collaboration with other involved parties (child, family, community and other providers), developing a work plan designed to meet the needs of the child – Service Plan;

(e)          In collaboration with other involved parties (child, family, community and other providers), determining the degree to which services assist the child, family and community to meet the goals stated in the service plan – Evaluation; and

(f)           Ensuring that all services are provided according to legal expectations, the agency’s mandate and established policies and procedures – Administration.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
·         Bachelors of Social Work Degree, Child and Youth Care Degree or a Social Sciences degree plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the human services field.

  • Must be delegated or eligible for delegation in the province of BC.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and history and how these affect the development of individuals, families and communities; and federal, provincial and aboriginal organizations mandated to provide child and family services.

  • Understanding of cross-cultural issues as they affect children in care foster parents, biological parents and communities of origins.

  • Practical knowledge of the following: federal, provincial and aboriginal organizations mandated to provide health, counseling and child and family services; (Human Resources) policies and procedures of the agency; and agency (practice) policies and procedures manual.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in: developing strong working relationships with children, families, Aboriginal communities, foster parents, biological parents, and other FVACFSS employees; developing contractual arrangements with clients, caregivers, and other professionals; balancing competing priorities; working under pressure; writing concise reports to various audiences; representing and promoting FVACFSS; and conducting investigations, completing assessments, developing work plans, implementing plans and evaluating intervention success.

  • Professional commitment, flexibility and good problem and dispute resolution solving skills.

  • Computer literacy on Database, Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer software.

  • Valid BC Driver’s License; reliable transportation with adequate vehicle insurance.

  • Criminal Record Check required.
