Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society is a fully delegated agency providing culturally appropriate and holistic services through various programs to Aboriginal children and families residing on and off reserve communities in the Fraser Valley. The agency is divided into three regions: 1) Langley/Abbotsford and surrounding areas; 2) Mission/Agassiz and surrounding areas; 3) Chilliwack and surrounding areas.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director of FVACFSS and under the mandate of FVACFSS, the Director of Programs is responsible for providing child welfare practice consultation to both delegated and preventative teams.  The Director of Programs is directly accountable for the quality of child welfare services and for setting and monitoring standards of practice within the agency.  The Director of Programs is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of service delivery and integrated case management plans as outlined in the main mandate and vision of the Agency.

The Director of Programs will be responsible for monitoring and directing child welfare programs. The Director of Programs will encounter the widest range of potentially serious and complex cases and will be expected to authoritatively respond with clinical consultation representing “best” practice guidance in each case situation. The Director of Programs will provide services to all FVACFSS regions and will be asked to respond to the practice concerns/needs of all child welfare supervisors and their managers. These circumstances call for astute professional judgement in assessing situations and in prioritising requests. While responding to case specific consultation requests, the Director of Programs must continue to develop the capability of child welfare staff in all regions.

PREREQUISITES

  • MSW, MA, BSW, BA or equivalent with minimum of five (5) years current experience in Child Welfare.

  • Current C6 delegation with two (2) years as a delegated supervisor in child protection and one (1) year in management within child protection.

  • Extensive knowledge of provincial and federal organizations mandated to provide counselling and child and family services.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture.

  • Skills and abilities to: assess the strengths and limitations of risk assessments, risk reduction plans and plans of care; mediate contentious cases; provide mentoring to new staff; provide training; model professional social work values and ethics; undertake research related to specific clinical information and resource needs; undertake effective case consultations; organize, present and document information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner which allows for understanding a case analysis, reasons for recommendations, and the need for further action; communicate and work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment; and audit files.

  • Practical knowledge of the following: federal, provincial and aboriginal organizations mandated to provide counseling and child and family services; (personnel) policies and procedures of the Agency’s policies and procedures manual.

Preference at this time is given to candidates who are currently employed as Regional Managers for FVACFSS; police record check required; able to work flexible hours some evenings and weekends; valid driver’s license.
